Calligraphic lettering using one’s hand and a pen is now nearly a lost art form.  The focus of this course is to create beautifully rendered letters in Old English by hand.  Using a calligraphic pen and ink on paper, the instructor will address correct details of letterforms, pen angles, interlinear spacing, color, design and a meditative approach to beautiful script.

Landscape Painting with Susan Miiller

Painting the Night with Brian Shapiro
Using painterly realist style, Brian demonstrates night time painting in plein air. The picture plane of night scenes is entirely different from daytime plein air painting. Learn how to capture artificial light starting from a dark canvas and working up to a finished night scene. See examples of the instructor's finished works to get a sense of what is possible. This class will happen outdoors at night in good weather, indoors from photos in inclement weather.

This one day workshop focuses on building form with color and light.  Simplifying form, composition, balance, (in terms of the relation of objects to the size of the canvas) will be discussed. Alla Prima Watercolor with Alix Hallman Travis
Breath life into your paintings.  Produce fresh, expressive transparent paintings by painting alla prima, all-at-once.  Painters will stand at a table or easle and paint with large brushes on a wet surface and proceed through the drying process to apply final strokes with a rigger brush.  There will not be time to overwork a painting because we will finish 2 paintings in 3 hours! Spring Floral Retreat with William Noonan
Day long Workshop/Retreat, This day long workshop will give students the chance to work with a fresh Spring still life that celebrates this seasonal time of renewal. The class will start at 9:30 and go till 12 noon. We will sit down and enjoy a sophisticated prefix lunch at a nearby restaurant from noon till 1:30. This will offer students the chance to mingle and get to know each other. After lunch class will resume and go till 4:30. Students may work in any medium they choose.  This class is appropriate for any level and promises to be a fun day of painting, good food and camaraderie. A fun, full-day getaway for artists suffering from winter blahs! Lunch provided, dessert with critique.
