George, a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, works as a graphic
artist at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf, N.Y. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, absorbed the beauty of the landscapes near his hometown of Erie and began studying and sketching these natural wonders whenever he could. The power of Hayes' oil and pastel paintings springs, in part, from this connection with the land. Art appreciators can feel the passion in his paintings as he captures the
unique light and color of the Mid-Hudson Region and his striking and
graphically strong compositions are already enjoyed by several private
collectors.
George is currently a member of the Wallkill River School, where he studies with such notable artists as Shawn Dell Joyce, Gene Bove and Mary Mugele Sealfon. Hayes' personal belief in the preservation of open spaces, farms and the agricultural heritage of Orange County blends well with the school's own mission and, as a result, Hayes now sits on the school's board of directors. He lives in Warwick with his wife, Carol, and their two cats.

and in a stretch of personal and professional loss. She picked up a
brush and found refuge. She took classes with the Wallkill River School and at Lyme Academy in Lyme, Conn., and began painting with the WRS plein-air group, where experienced painters welcomed and mentored her. Eventually, Jacobson moved from Orange County, left her 22-year newspaper career and began pursuing painting full-time.
This summer, she drove cross-country, painting plein-air landscapes,
and talking with Americans about the places they call home. That body
of work - paintings from her journey to Wisdom, Mont. - will be shown
for the first time during the November exhibit. Her work is characterized by a sense of immediacy and joy, and an abstract edge of bright and vibrant colors.
Jacobson lives in Connecticut with her husband, dogs and cats.
